How do facial oils work?
You're probably wondering why your facial skin needs oil, or if these are only luxury moisturisers to keep skin hydrated. But facial oils hold the secret to achieving healthy, radiant skin—no matter what your skin type may be, and they are not moisturisers. Oh, and it's not only for dry skin! Facial oils have so many nutrients like vitamin C, essential fatty acids, and most importantly, antioxidants.
Can facial oils clog pores?
Any kind of facial oil is perfect for normal skin type. But if you have super oily skin, combination skin type or acne-prone and sensitive skin, you might have to worry about having breakouts. What can you do?
Choose the right kind of oil according to your skin types like jojoba, hemp seed, and maracuja oil, and avoid comedogenic oils like coconut and moringa oil.
How do these oils work on your face?
- Despite a super-rich, velvety texture, face oils do little in the way of moisturising but they do prolong the moisture in your skin by helping to soften and smooth the outer layer of the skin (the epidermis).
- They also form a protective seal on the epidermis to prevent water escaping through the skin’s top layer. Water loss can make your skin look dry, dull, and dead.
- It also strengthens the skin’s barrier - the outermost layer of the epidermis.
- Antioxidants in facial oils penetrate the skin to rejuvenate and protect it from harmful bacteria—helping to build a resilient skin layer known as the lipid barrier.
- Facial oils keep moisture locked-in and environmental pollutants out.
- Even though facial oils don't moisturise skin like you would expect them to, they do help other moisturising products work more effectively.
